Summary
SeaSignals offers free trial accounts. To run them we keep a small amount of account data, one sign-in cookie and per-day API request counts. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. We don't use advertising trackers, and we don't sell your information.
What we collect
- Account details. Your email address, your name if you give it, and a one-way hash of your password (we never store the password itself).
- Sign-in sessions. When you sign in we store the IP address and browser user agent of that session, so you can stay signed in and we can spot misuse.
- API usage. The number of API requests per day for your account and each API key, and when each key was last used. We don't log the contents of your queries against your account.
- API keys. Only a hash of each key is stored; the key itself is shown to you once.
- Emails you send us. If you contact us, we receive your email address and whatever you write.
Cookies
We set one essential, encrypted cookie when you sign in (to keep you signed in), and a session cookie that protects forms against cross-site request forgery. Google Analytics sets its own cookies (named _ga and _ga_*) to count visits and tell new visitors from returning ones. There are no advertising cookies.
Third-party services
These providers process data on our behalf, or receive your IP address and basic browser information when your browser loads something from them:
- Heroku (Salesforce) hosts the application and database.
- Our email provider sends account emails such as verification and password resets.
- Cloudflare Turnstile may check that sign-ups come from people, not bots (Cloudflare privacy policy).
- Google Analytics measures page views and how visitors use the site, using cookies and your IP address (Google privacy policy, opt-out browser add-on).
- Google Fonts serves the fonts used on every page (Google privacy policy).
- jsDelivr and unpkg serve the three.js and MapLibre libraries on the Voyage and explorer pages (jsDelivr privacy policy).
- OpenFreeMap serves map tiles on the Voyage and explorer pages.
Locations you look up in Voyage or the API are answered from our own database. When we have no forecast for a point, we request one from Open-Meteo using only the rounded coordinates, never your identity.
How we use your information
To run your account and trial, enforce usage limits, send account emails, keep the service secure, and understand which features people use. We may email you about your trial (for example before it ends). We don't use your information for advertising.
How long we keep it
Daily usage counts and sign-in session records are deleted after 90 days. Account details are kept while your account exists; ask us and we'll delete your account and its data.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us at any time what information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under local law, such as the GDPR or CCPA. To make a request, email info@seasignals.com.
Changes
We'll update this page as SeaSignals grows and change the date at the top when we do.
